Annual General Meeting held at Pokrov Melbourne, Russian Orthodox Church in Brunswick

The parish annual general meeting was held on Sunday, 25 August and despite being conducted in two languages took only 2 hours.

The following parishioners were elected:
Warden: Michael Stirkul
Treasurer: Alek Bialocerkowski
Secretary: Nick Wirubov
Head sister: Lubov Cowall
Council members: Ivan Bochkarev, Stephen Popov, Nikolai Rudakov, Inna Smith, Tamara Smith
Reserve members: Gennady Baksheev, Alex Rudakov
Audit committee: Margarita Mingin, Matushka Elizabeth Dalinkiewicz, Lucy Rudakov
Delegates to Diocesan Council: Lubov Cowall, Grigory Metlenko, Nikolai Rudakov, Michael Stirkul, Nick Wirubov

Our rector noted that the younger generation must begin to step up and actively participate in parish life. The fact that two young people were actually elected as Council members was very welcome. Other young people are encouraged to start thinking about the future and to take advantage now of the experience of our current teams.

Fr. Andrey Kuraev, a missionary from Moscow, visited our parish on August 4 and gave a sermon during Sunday liturgy. The transcript in Russian and English can be found here. After the liturgy, there was a talk and discussion in the church hall where he gave answers to many questions from around 70 people.

Bishop Nicholai of Salavat (Bashkortostan) served matins and liturgy in our Cathedral on August 9 (Feast of St Panteleimon). He visited Australia and New Zealand as a pilgrim and presented us with an icon of Mother of God Tabinskaya.

It is a tradition for 10 year students from Kyneton Catholic school to visit our church every year. On August 16 three bus loads visited and Fr. Nicholas Karipoff conducted a tour and spoke about the layout of the Church, the murals, the iconostasis and the services of our Church. Young people and teachers are always very happy to visit our Cathedral.

The Feast of Transfiguration. The Patronal feast at the Holy Transfiguration monastery in Cooma was held on August 19. Quite a few people from Victoria were able to be there for the service and trapeza. Even though the weather this year was very chilly, the pilgrims received a spiritual and an emotional boost.

There is a long list of unfinished projects and needed repairs. Young and able-bodied people are needed to help with these jobs. Please approach Fr Nicholas Karipoff if you are ready to help.
